The Betrayal

Throughout the day we are following the Holy Week story, you can find the first sessions under the news section.

Watch the story of how Jesus was betrayed

Point to Ponder

Think of playing snakes and ladders. As you progress towards your goal you can land on a snake and suddenly be back near the start. It is not always as they expect, is it? The apostles did not plan to betray their friend but it turned out they did.

During the Last Supper Jesus reveals that he would be betrayed. But it is not only Judas who will leave Jesus. He says that they will all fall away on this very night. In just a few hours they did indeed desert him.

After eating, Jesus and his disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus returned to this place every evening to pray so it must have been a favourite spot. Where do you like to go if you need somewhere to think or pray?

After praying Jesus went back to his friends. They were not praying like he had told them to. They were sleeping. Jesus told them to wake up. Jesus told them to wake up because a crowd of people were coming with clubs and swords. Judas, one of Jesus’ friends and disciples was bringing the people to arrest Jesus.

“How will we know which man to arrest?” the people in the crowd asked Judas.

“Jesus is my teacher. Just watch,” Judas said. “I will kiss Jesus. Then you will know which one to arrest”

Sometimes even though we try our best we don’t always do the right thing (even if we don’t mean to) but that sometimes makes it hard for other people around us. We should try not to judge others for the choices they make but we should always try to be kind and loving like Jesus asked us to be.

Darkness, no! Morning, yes!

How things have changed,
O Resurrected One.

Bad news, no! Good news, yes!

What a difference a day makes,
O Resurrected One.

the love that pulled Jesus through death,
and gave him breath again,
may it give us life,
