Believe it or not, there were some sunny days earlier this summer, and on one of these your webmaster enjoyed an al fresco breakfast with family and friends while the torch sped past!
It was a great honour to be chosen to carry the torch, and all the torchbearers had a story to tell. This particular torchbearer was only 19, but had experienced success, and then injury and disappointment, after which she had needed to work out new ways of achieving her goals. Message there for us, both as individuals and churches!
But that isn’t the only message we can draw from the torch. Like the Olympic torchbearers, Christians are called to take up the torch and carry it proudly and faithfully, to pass the torch to others. And we must to light the flame so that everyone can see it, and those who do not know Christ may come to know Him: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid” (Matthew 5:14).
Then, as with the Olympic torchbearers, we are also role models: people ought to be able to look at our lives and desire what we have. Finally, as Christians, we ought to set the pace for others to follow in all aspects of our life and witness.
